About This Book
Why Drawing and Design Thinking Decide Your Rank
The subjective sections of design exams test what you can draw, imagine and communicate under time pressure. UCEED Part B includes drawing, NID tests studio and drawing skills (see the NID DAT Syllabus), and NIFT’s Creative Ability Test and Situation Test reward clear visual thinking. This module teaches each skill visually, and the workbook gives you the space and time limits to practise it.

Try It Yourself
One Example, One Question for You
Both questions use the ellipse rule from Chapter 1 (Object Drawing). Study the example, then try the next one.
A glass is placed exactly at your eye level. How should its rim be drawn?
Solution: When the rim is exactly at eye level, you see it edge-on, so the ellipse closes into a straight line. The base, below eye level, still curves.
Tip: The further an ellipse is from eye level, the rounder it gets.
A mug sits on a table well below your eye level. Which drawing shows its ellipses correctly?
🎉 Correct! You’re seeing like an artist.
The base is further below eye level than the rim, so the base ellipse is rounder. The workbook has 270 tasks that train exactly this kind of observation.
Get the Full ModuleNot quite. Here’s the trick.
Ellipses get rounder the further they are from eye level. The base is further below your eyes than the rim, so the base must be the rounder one: option D. Chapter 1 teaches this rule step by step.

Yes. You get both: the 30-chapter teaching book and a 30-chapter A4 landscape practice workbook with 270 tasks.
