NID, NIFT or UCEED — Where Should You Start?

NID
NID follows a foundation-year model — every student is exposed to Industrial, Communication, Textile & Apparel, Animation, Interaction and other disciplines before final allocation happens. Selection runs through DAT Prelims and DAT Mains, and it primarily tests design thinking and observation, not drawing skill alone.
NIFT
NIFT works differently — students choose their discipline at the application stage itself (Fashion Design, Fashion Communication, Textile Design, Knitwear or Accessory Design), rather than being allocated later. With 20 campuses and around 4,000 seats nationally, it’s India’s largest fashion-focused design network.
UCEED
UCEED is the gateway to B.Des programs at 6 IITs and IIITDM Jabalpur. It evaluates visual perception, design aptitude and analytical/logical reasoning through a two-part exam — Part A (computer-based) and Part B (drawing).
