Analytical Reasoning for NID, NIFT & UCEED
Sixteen reasoning formats, from Analogy to Syllogism, broken down into simple rules you can apply in seconds. Built for the logical and analytical sections of design entrance exams.
About This Book
Why Reasoning Matters in Design Entrance Exams
Reasoning questions test how clearly you think, not how much you have memorised. They reward a few reliable rules applied carefully, which makes them some of the most learnable marks in the objective sections. NIFT’s General Ability Test has a dedicated Analytical and Logical Ability section, and UCEED and CEED test reasoning in Part A. NID has included reasoning in past papers, though its most recent Prelims did not have a GAT section (see our NID DAT PYQ Analysis).

All 16 Chapters and Where They Matter
Each chapter opens with its target exams and how often the format appears, so you know where to spend your time first.
“Regularly tested” means the format appears consistently in recent papers, though exact question counts vary by year and paper set. NID levels reflect earlier papers: the most recent NID DAT Prelims did not include a GAT section, and NID can change its pattern in any year. Always check the latest official exam notice.

One Example, One Question for You
Both questions are taken from Chapter 3 (Coding-Decoding). Study the example, then try the next one.
In a certain code, every letter of a word is shifted forward by 2 positions. How is CAT written in this code?
Solution: Shift each letter forward by 2: C→E, A→C, T→V. Reading in order gives ECV.
Tip: Work letter by letter — never shift the whole word as one block.
In a certain code, every letter of a word is shifted forward by 3 positions. How is DOG written in this code?
🎉 Correct! Your reasoning is sharp.
D→G, O→R, G→J gives GRJ. This book has 1,600 questions across 16 formats like this one.
